I would give them a 4.5/5 if I could. They are Frye's and very well made. The leather is buttery soft. I got size 9, in black, and normally wear an 8.5 or 9M. I would wear them with jeans underneath. I first tried them on my bare legs--as if I was going to wear them with a sweater dress and tights--they were very loose in the ankle and slouched a little on my calf (I'm 5'7/135lbs, with normal sized calves)). I was not crazy about the look at all. I will say that I think the calf area is smaller than most Frye's boots--so that's a plus for ladies with skinny calves.I prefer slouch boots in suede, and stiffer boots to be in leather--maybe I'm just weird like that! However, these do look quite nice over jeans, though I tried them on with BOOTCUT jeans and not skinny jeans. That filled out the ankle area enough that the boot no longer looked strange. These boots are very sexy with the high stacked heel and pointed toe and the gold piping is just the *ping* perfect extra. The leather is very very soft, unlike my Frye Campus boots that are more like rawhide--these boots are like glove leather. They are leather lined and the zipper goes from the instep of the foot strait up to the seam. I have average sized calves and they were somewhat snug the first 2-3 wearings but are not like this now. They have a rubber and leather sole that has not proven to be an issue with winter weather. I did take the time to weather proof them with sealant spray before the season became wet. I like it because of its versatility. You can wear it casual or formal, with pants, skirts or dresses. I have more than one Frye boots and I am big fan of this brand. This company has been around since 1863 and they have well made shoes. A lot of their shoes have a classic look so you can wear them for years. The materials are of great quality. My mother told me that you can tell how well the clothes and shoes were made by the quality of the materials and the stitching.With that being said, I gave it a 4 star. Here's why: 1.
