4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Boots for Fall!, September 13, 2010

I know boots of this style are not "in" this season much like MIA's Drifter, DV by Dolche Vita's Bailey, and the Desert Boot by Clarks ([...]), but I wanted something a bit more durable and went with these, plus, it didn't hurt that these are made by Frye!

Upon receiving them, I notice how sturdy this boot was and that it has some weight to it. Its leather is of decent quality, not as rigid as other boots I have had from Frye, but definitely not overly flexible. In fact, these are going to need slight breaking in around the ankle area. In spite of this, I was able to get them on easily and my feed did not feel squished in the least. In fact, these boots seem to be more on the roomy side.

At first, I wasn't sure if I made the right decision ordering my true size, however, I don't think these are a full half size larger either. Socks I own tend to be on the thinner side, so I am thinking a nice thick sock will do the trick, which makes sense for me since I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Traditional but sporty, July 14, 2010

I love these boots. The leather weight is about standard for a blucher like LLBean or Sperry used to make, but the overall quality is high and seems durable. The finish is what I'd call pre-aged, though the darkened toe area might be a little more pronounced than the image shows.

The styling is very "O,Brother Where Art Thou?" in keeping with the more traditional 1930s styles American designers showed this spring. The crepe sole is nice and squishy and the boot is comfortable to wear.

The drawbacks I find in Frye boots and shoes are a toe box slighter wider than I personally require and the lack of arch support. These boots with mid-weight socks and an insole with a slight arch are perfect. In winter, I don't know how heavy a sock I can wear with full insoles, but padded ski socks often work well in lieu of full insoles.

In the photo, the boot has a heavy look, like construction workers' or lumbermens' boots, but they look much better on, and don't... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars I am not sure about this boot., March 30, 2010

I still have it in the box and have not worn them. The thing that disturbs me is the leather quality. It is not up to the high
standard I usually see on Frye boots. The leather is thin, shiny, and treated so the coloring is not uniform on the boot.
